Track Cycling, a breathtaking and sensational cycling discipline at the Paris 2024 Games!

Track Cycling encompasses various types of races, each with its own specificities. Some are focused on tactics, while others on power. There is a significant difference between an individual sprint event spanning a few laps and a 25 km group race that concludes the omnium.

Track Cycling originated in the mid-19th century. The first competitions took place in Great Britain, where sprint races were organized on wooden velodromes in the shape of an oval.

Over time, track cycling developed into a full-fledged sport, with regional, national, and international competitions. Wooden tracks were replaced with concrete or asphalt surfaces, and new events were added to the program, including individual and team pursuit, keirin, and sprint.

Track Cycling made its Olympic debut in 1896 and quickly became a staple event. Track races gained popularity worldwide, especially in Europe and Australia, where athletes set incredible records and won numerous world and Olympic titles.

Today, track cycling is regarded as one of the most exciting and spectacular disciplines within the sport, featuring races where speed and tactics are paramount. Riders compete to cross the finish line first in thrilling events that captivate audiences worldwide.
