BMX Racing

The Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Stade BMX will host the BMX Racing events, with competitions taking place on August 1st and 2nd.

Two events will be offered: one for women and one for men, following the same format as in previous games.

BMX Racing

BMX Racing, one of the most energetic and thrilling events of the Paris 2024 Games!

It pits eight riders against each other on a 400-meter track filled with jumps, turns, and obstacles. Competitors launch from an eight-meter-high starting ramp at speeds that can reach up to 60 km/h, demanding tremendous explosiveness and extreme agility. The riders must exhibit excellent technique to overcome the obstacles while maintaining their lead against other competitors. The excitement is palpable until the very end of the race, where the audience can witness an exhilarating final sprint.

BMX Racing has a fascinating history dating back to the 1960s. Riders sought to recreate the thrills of motocross, a wildly popular discipline at the time. Thus, BMX (Bicycle Moto-Cross) was born. The first races took place in California, where participants competed on improvised tracks.

Over the years, BMX Racing gained increasing popularity with the development of more sophisticated circuits and the organization of regional, national, and international competitions. In 1982, the first BMX Racing event was held in the United States, closely followed by the inaugural World Championship in 1983.

The sport experienced significant growth in the 1990s, eventually becoming an Olympic discipline in 2008 at Beijing. Since then, the number of BMX Racing enthusiasts has continued to rise worldwide, and elite competitions attract thousands of fans. BMX Racing has evolved into a spectacular and demanding discipline, showcasing the technical and physical skills of the riders.

The competitions will consist of three stages: the qualifying heats, the quarterfinals, the semifinals, and the final.

Each race features eight riders, with the top four from each race advancing to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals consist of four races with eight riders, and the top four from each race move on to the semifinals. The semifinals consist of two races with eight riders, with the top four from each race advancing to the final. In total, there will be 24 male riders and 24 female riders competing.

The BMX Racing final showcases the top eight riders, who go head-to-head in a single race to determine the winner. The tension reaches its peak during this final race, with spectacular jumps, overtakes, and a thrilling sprint to cross the finish line in first position.
